Job summary

YMCA of Central Ohio Lifeguard is seeking seasonal lifeguards to maintain safe swimming conditions and enforce rules in a courteous, professional manner. The role emphasizes safety, leadership and community impact with paid lifeguard training and opportunities for growth.

Hourly rates vary by season (May–August at $15, September–April at $14). No prior experience required; training and membership perks are provided. Work with diverse teams and contribute to a safe, welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Ability to maintain American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
• Ability to work with a diverse population including children
• Comfort in and around water
• Must pass a background check
• Must pass a pre employment skill check
• 300 Yard Swim
• 2 minute water tread
• Timed submerged brick retrieval

Responsibilities

• Maintains safety and security of the pool and its patrons at all times
• Rules are explained and enforced in a courteous, professional, and firm manner.
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately.
• Maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff.
• Performs chemical testing, as required.
• Participates in emergency drills and in service to the level in which staff have been trained.
