Job summary

YMCA of Central Ohio Lifeguard is a part-time on-site role focused on maintaining pool safety and a positive environment for members. The position offers flexible hours and welcomes individuals with no prior lifeguard experience.

Compensation includes base pay around $14.00 per hour, with $15.00 per hour seasonally (May–August). Perks include a free YMCA family membership, paid lifeguard training, and discounted programming.

Qualifications

• Must be 15 years of age or older.
• Ability to maintain American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• Ability to work with a diverse population including children.
• Comfort in and around water.
• Must pass a background check (18 years of age or older).
• Must pass a pre employment skill check.
• Knowledge of pool safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintains safety and security of the pool and its patrons at all times.
• Rules are explained and enforced in a courteous, professional, and firm manner.
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately.
• Maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff.
• Performs chemical testing, as required.
• Participates in emergency drills and in service to the level in which staff have been trained.

Duties include:

• Maintains safety and security of the pool and its patrons at all times
• Rules are explained and enforced in a courteous, professional, and firm manner.
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately.

• 300 Yard Swim
• 2 minute water tread
• Timed submerged brick retrieval

Summary

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
