Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is hiring lifeguards to protect members and participants at aquatics facilities. Paid certification training is offered to hires, and roles may require early mornings, afternoons, and weekends depending on location.

Responsibilities include preventive lifeguarding, responding to emergencies, enforcing pool rules, administering first aid/CPR, and scheduling drills. Candidates must meet certification and age requirements and pass exams.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Lifeguard certification from YMCA or Red Cross (must crossover to YMCA within 6 months).
• CPR PRO/AED from ARC, AHA, or ASHI.
• First Aid certification (First Aid for Public Safety Personnel) from ARC/AHA/ASHI.
• O2 certification from ARC/AHA/ASHI.
• Must pass written and practical skills exam prior to duty.

Responsibilities

• Practice preventative lifeguard techniques at all times.
• Maintain full view and stay within 180-degree area.
• Scan area every 5–10 seconds and respond within 10 seconds.
• Remain within 2 feet of the pool and perform rescues as needed.
• Report hazards to Director and educate participants on rules.
• Administer First Aid/CPR as necessary and perform pool chemical tests.
