Job summary

YMCA of Greater Charlotte in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure swimmer safety and assist with program activities.

The role requires vigilance, good communication, and the ability to act quickly in emergencies. Part-Time Plus (20+ hours/week) with paid time off and a free YMCA membership.

Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays; Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire is provided by the YMCA.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Strong swimming ability and endurance for rescues.
• Ability to stay alert for extended periods in a fast-paced setting.
• Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Pass Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire (provided by YMCA).

Responsibilities

• Monitor pool areas to ensure swimmer safety.
• Enforce rules with a professional, welcoming attitude.
• Respond quickly to emergencies and assist swimmers in distress.
• Conduct safety checks of pool, equipment, and surroundings.
• Maintain incident and maintenance records.
• Provide excellent customer service to members and guests.
• Support pool cleanliness and chemical balance checks.
