Job summary

The Gateway Region YMCA in St. Louis, MO is seeking a part-time lifeguard to maintain active surveillance of the pool area and ensure the safety of swimmers.

You will respond to emergencies per YMCA policies, complete required reports, and perform routine inspections of pool and equipment. Candidates must hold current lifeguard certification, be at least 15 years old, and demonstrate readiness to perform lifeguard duties consistently.

Qualifications

• Ability to maintain certification-level fitness and readiness.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Responds to emergencies per YMCA procedures and documents reports.
• Remains calm under pressure and provides timely hazard response.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures availability of needed gear.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.

Description

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
• Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.

Requirements

• Must be a certified lifeguard
