Job summary

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety of swimmers at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center in Providence, RI. This part-time position requires current lifeguard certification and the ability to perform rescue skills during interviews.

Responsibilities include active supervision, quick emergency response, and adherence to NCAA and Ivy League rules where applicable.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification or equivalent.
• Interview requires demonstration of Swim Test, Brick Test, Legs Only Tread, Rescue Scenarios, Spinal Injury Management, CPR/AED/First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and well-being of pool patrons and respond to emergencies.
• Monitor pool area and enforce safety rules and procedures.
• Support compliance with NCAA/Ivy League guidelines as applicable.

Job Description:

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Lifeguard position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center pool patrons (Brown students, faculty, staff, alumni, coaches, administrators, RISD students & faculty and general community members) by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent.
• Candidate must successfully demonstrate all the following swim and rescue skills as part of the interview process: Swim Test; Brick Test; Legs Only Tread; Rescue Skills Scenarios; Spinal Injury Management; CPR/AED/First Aid Scenarios.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).
