Job Summary

To obtain employment as a lifeguard, one must be an excellent swimmer and possess certification in lifesaving, particularly the Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving Certificate. Specific training in CPR is also required.

Essential Functions

• Maintain surveillance of swimming pools
• Ensure appropriate headcount during water activities
• Issue warnings to individuals in danger
• Provide safety information before water sports
• Supervise swimmers within safety protocols
• Identify hazards and prevent accidents
• Control unruly behavior
• Perform rescues and administer first aid/CPR
• Check and maintain safety equipment
• Store pool equipment safely and manage lost items
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills

• Calm and effective in emergencies
• Proficient in lifeguarding and rescue techniques
• Able to pass physical skills evaluation
• Capable of preparing administrative paperwork
• Knowledge of CPR and emergency procedures
• Follow verbal and written instructions
• Understand district policies

Minimum Qualifications

6 months to 1 year of relevant experience. CPR certified and recognized Lifeguard certification.

Other Requirements

• Pass fingerprint and background checks
• May need to work outside normal hours
• Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license
