Job summary

The NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities is recruiting Direct Support Assistants to help individuals with developmental disabilities live richer lives. Under supervision, duties include providing supports, advocating for personal choice, ensuring community integration and assisting with daily living tasks, including medication administration.

The role emphasizes safety and teamwork with care plans.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency (GED or DSP Certificate) required.
Valid driver's license must be maintained throughout employment as a DSA.
Must meet physical and agility standards.

Responsibilities

Provide supports and services.
Advocate, encourage, guide and teach individuals in expressing personal choice.
Ensure community integration.
Assist individuals with personal hygiene care, toileting, dining, dressing, meal preparation, lifts and transfers.
Help individuals to participate in games and recreational programs.
Coach and encourage individuals to develop daily living skills.
Provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
Work with other staff to carry out care plans and to record care plans.
Administer medication in accordance with special instructions.
