Job summary

The NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities seeks a Direct Support Assistant to help individuals with developmental disabilities lead fuller lives. Under supervision, you will provide supports and services, advocate for personal choice, and help with daily living tasks while ensuring safety and community integration.

Key duties include assisting with hygiene, meals, mobility, recreation, and recording care plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or Direct Support Professional (DSP) Certificate from an accredited organization.
• You must have a valid New York State driver's license and maintain it throughout employment as a DSA.
• You must meet physical and agility standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide supports and services.
• Advocate, encourage, guide and teach individuals in expressing personal choice.
• Ensure community integration.
• Assist individuals with personal hygiene, toileting, dining, dressing, meal prep, lifts and transfers.
• Help individuals participate in games and recreational programs.
• Coach and encourage daily living skills.
• Provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
• Work with staff to carry out and record care plans.
• Administer medication according to special instructions.
