Job summary

New Start SLS is seeking compassionate staff for Life Skills Coach roles to provide in-home and community-based support to adults with developmental disabilities. You help individuals make choices about where they live, work, and spend time, empowering them to gain independence and confidence.

Shifts include mornings, evenings, and overnights across Placerville and Shingle Springs, with potential transition to Placerville as needed.

Qualifications

• Speak, read and write English are required.
• Age 18 or older required.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience supporting individuals with disabilities.
• DOJ LiveScan Background Check required.
• TB test and a clear physical within the last year.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
• IHSS provider registered with IHSS El Dorado County to work IHSS shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with learning daily skills and activities.
• Assist with menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, budgeting, cleaning, and transportation.
• Attend appointments and participate in social/leisure activities.
• Document daily notes and follow Medication Administration processes.

Shingle Springs

• We are looking to hire one part-time SLS and one part-time IHSS worker to provide weekend support in Shingle Springs. This position may soon transition to Placerville as the individual relocates.
• Additional Openings: Now are currently hiring across several locations including Auburn, Citrus Heights, Shingle Springs, Placerville, and Stockton. Some opening might have flexibility to be combined for additional hours and on-call opportunities. Contact us for more details!

ABOUT THE ROLE - LIFE SKILLS COACH

Supportive Living Services is a program designed to provide in-home and community-based assistance to adults with developmental disabilities who live in their own homes and want to make their own choices. At New Start SLS, we believe that individuals thrive when they make their own choices about where they live, work, and how they spend their time and resources. By taking control of the choices that control their lives, those with developmental disabilities can better direct their own future.

Through patience, guidance, encouragement and Person-Centered Planning, we support the individuals we serve to develop the confidence and skills they need to make meaningful choices, as well as experience fulfillment and greater independence. Each shift offers new experiences and the reward of knowing you’ve made a difference.

In this position, a few examples of the type of work you will be doing may include assisting the individual with learning daily skills and activities, menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, budgeting, cleaning, using public transportation, making and attending appointments, volunteering, and participating in social leisure activities. Other duties include, but are not limited to:

• Staff will be sensitive to the ethnic, lifestyle, and cultural diversity of our consumers and their circle of support. Staff will encourage, and help achieve consumer success.
• Provide in-home and community based assistance to consumers according to individual service programs set up by Alta California Regional Center and New Start SLS.
• Reporting of issues and concerns regarding consumers to New Start Case Manager.
• Attending in-service training sessions when offered and complete required assigned continued education monthly.
• Documenting of daily charting notes and adhere to Medication Administration processes.
• Some individuals we serve may require staff transportation support. To be eligible to drive clients, staff must be eligible and willing to use their personal vehicle during employment. Eligibility requires documentation review and maintaining copies of valid CA driver’s license, current insurance, and clean DMV record with the office.
• Placerville Required: Some of the individuals we support use electric or manual wheelchairs, receive assistance with adaptive equipment for transfer, and may require personal care assistance (ex: toileting, bathing, brushing teeth, wound assistance).
• SLS Pay rates: Placerville High-Support $23.00 per hour. Shingle Springs $19-20.00 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS + PRE-REQUISITES

• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
• Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience supporting individuals with disabilities. Must also have a punctual and reliable work ethic with a positive attitude, empathy and the ability to support others.
• Complete and Maintain a Satisfactory DOJ LiveScan Background Check.
• Provide evidence of a Negative TB Test and a Clear Physical from within the last year.
• Provide proof of current CPR and First Aid Certification from an in-person or hybrid based course.
• IHSS: Must be a registered/certified IHSS provider with IHSS El Dorado County to work IHSS shifts in this region. IHSS pay rate determined by IHSS El Dorado County.
