Job summary

Brookings-Harbor High School in Brookings, Oregon, seeks a Life Skills Instructional Assistant to support the classroom team. The role involves preparing instructional materials, assisting with small-group and one-on-one instruction, and helping maintain a safe, orderly environment for students ages 5 to 21 in specialized programs.

The Aide will implement teacher-designed activities, follow behavior plans, and may accompany students on community-based activities.

Qualifications

• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
• Must possess OIS certification or have completed other Restraint/Seclusion courses approved by the District within 90 days of hire.
• Must be able to drive to alternate locations in order to support students.
• Must have completed two years of post-secondary education or an Associate Degree, preferably including coursework in working with children in an educational setting.
• In lieu of Item 4 above, must possess both of the following: High School Diploma or equivalent, and Passing score on a qualifying state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Assists in delivering instructional materials and working with small groups or individuals to reinforce instruction.
• Implements planned activities and behavior plans under teacher direction.
• Supports students with mobility devices and personal care needs as required by individual plans.
