Job summary

W. R. Berkley Corporation, through Berkley Life Sciences, seeks an associate underwriter in New Jersey. The role focuses on new business production, renewal underwriting, and service for a producer group within Life Sciences. You will collaborate with multiple departments to ensure compliance and timely service.

You will review submissions, contribute to pricing decisions, and manage risk within authority while building strong insured and broker relationships to drive growth and profitability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of associate underwriting experience including products or property, workers compensation and automobile.
• Prior claims-made experience is a plus.
• Life Sciences experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with internal and external customers and colleagues to meet financial goals: growth, profit, retention, and new business.
• Negotiate and strategize underwriting decisions within authority.
• Review new line/endorsement submissions and stay within binding authority.
• Drive renewal process, review renewals, work with producers to obtain underwriting information.
• Manage assigned book to achieve budgeted rate, retention and new business goals.
• Execute pricing components and rating methodologies.
