Job summary

BCG Attorney Search seeks an Intellectual Property Associate in Chicago with at least 2 years of life sciences patenting experience. You will work on sophisticated patent matters for a diverse client base, including Fortune 50 companies and innovative start-ups.

You will prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications, conduct freedom-to-operate and IP due diligence, and advise clients through the product lifecycle, collaborating with the USPTO and foreign associates.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of patent attorney/associate experience in biotechnology or life sciences IP.
  • Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in biologics or large-molecule technologies.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO and bar admission.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the life sciences sector.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape searches and analyses.
  • Advise clients on patent issues throughout the product lifecycle, including portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, the USPTO, and foreign associates on patent prosecution matters.
  • Contribute to a collaborative environment supporting professional growth and client service excellence.

Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate with at least 2 years of experience in life sciences patenting in Chicago, IL. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated patent matters for a diverse client base, including Fortune 50 companies and innovative start-ups.

Duties
  • Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the life sciences sector.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape searches and analyses.
  • Advise clients on patent issues throughout the product lifecycle, including strategic consultation and portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, the USPTO, and foreign associates on patent prosecution matters.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment supporting professional growth and client service excellence.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience as a patent attorney in biotechnology.
  • Experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to biologics or large-molecule technologies.
  • Experience in conducting searches and analyses for freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape assessments.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO in good standing.
  • Admission to at least one State bar.
  • Prior law firm experience preferred.
Education & Certifications
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biological sciences, e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, etc.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO.
