Overview
A law firm seeks a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate with at least 2 years of experience in life sciences patenting in Baltimore, MD. This role offers an opportunity for candidates with an advanced degree and a strong background in biological sciences to engage in sophisticated patent matters for a diverse client base.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the life sciences sector.
- Conduct freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape searches and analyses.
- Advise clients on patent issues throughout the product lifecycle, including strategic consultation, portfolio management, and patent enforcement.
- Collaborate with clients, colleagues, the USPTO, and foreign associates regarding domestic and international patent prosecution matters.
- Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment that supports professional growth and client service excellence.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience as a patent attorney in biotechnology.
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biological sciences, e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, etc.
- Superior academic credentials.
- Experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to biologics or other large-molecule technologies.
- Experience in conducting searches and analyses for freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape assessments.
- Registration to practice before the USPTO in good standing.
- Admission to at least one State bar.
- Prior law firm experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education
Advanced degree in biological sciences (Ph.D. preferred).
