Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC seeks an Air Medical Communications Specialist for the Duke Life Flight team. You will operate a communications center, manage phones, radio consoles, weather radar, and dispatch air and ground transports for critically ill patients.

The role requires two years of dispatching experience, NC EMT/EMD certification, and proficiency with Maestro and Dispatch software; training will continue over 6–18 months. Shifts are 3 x 12-hour blocks at 14 Moore Drive.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of dispatching experience in 911 control line or related setting.
• Certified NC EMT or EMD and maintain certifications.
• Commitment to ongoing education and continuing certification.
• CommLink CFC certification within 18 months.
• Ability to operate radio/console equipment and transmit information.
• Ability to learn Maestro and Dispatch software applications.
• Demonstrates progress within a 90 day probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Operate communications center phones, two-way radio, weather radar, computer database and mapping systems.
• Respond to emergency transport calls and dispatch crews per procedures; coordinate with physicians and units.
• Outline options and recommend actions to medical control based on factors.
• Maintain interface with Public Safety for proper transport coordination.
• Provide statistical data and directions for landing sites; monitor weather information.
• Coordinate admissions from outside hospitals with nurses and physicians; document trauma divert status.
