Position Overview:

Provides nursing care, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician, in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Integrates education, technical competence and patient interaction skills to gain confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers. Exercises sound judgment, and developed clinical skills to implement the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Supports the functionality of the department by distributing supplies and performing equipment maintenance, testing, and setup as needed. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety to help deliver optimal patient care.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

NURSING SERVICES

1. Performs patient care activities, within the scope of competency, considering age-related needs of the patient as assigned.
2. Assist medical personnel with special procedures, minor surgical procedures and/or diagnostic exams.
3. Assess and monitor patients' condition and notify physician/health care professional for disposition.
4. Reports unusual findings to the physician and/or RN and contributes recommendations for revision to the plan of care.
5. Collaborates with physician and/or RN to develop individualized plan of care that reflects clinical findings, planning, implementing, and evaluating the outcomes of that plan.
6. Monitors patients progress based on the plan. Assures care meets standards of practice.
7. Discusses patient findings and progress toward outcomes with physicians, Registered Nurse, and other members of the health care team.
8. Prepares for and assists RNs and physicians in a variety of medical procedures and patient examinations.
9. Keeps health care team members informed regarding patient responses to interventions.
10. Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.
11. Prepare and administer medications as directed by physician order, following established protocols.
12. Monitor patient flow and assign/direct other ancillary personnel as needed.
13. Maintains equipment and understands procedures and treatments performed by physicians.
14. Explains and educates the patient on process of examinations, tests and medical procedures in a clear and professional manner to alleviate fear and anxiety.
15. Mentors and fosters a constructive environment that helps students and new LVNs build confidence in their skills, knowledge and abilities.

CLERICAL

1. Performs general clerical tasks, such as answering phones; updating patient appointments; or retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records (EHR).
2. Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to patient, including all treatment performed, in medical and departmental records as required.

SAFETY

1. Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after each procedure.
2. Inspects and calibrates equipment accordingly for proper operation and records the quality control (QC) results, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor.

COMPLIANCE

1. Maintains strictest confidence of all patient protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.
2. Performs quality care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care.
3. Prepares, administers, and documents medications and treatments in accordance with state and federal regulations.
4. Retains certification and completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements.

EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited school of Vocational Nursing.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

1. LVN-Licensed Vocational Nurse
2. BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
3. Blood draw certificate within 30 days
4. DL-Valid Drivers License
5. AUTO-Automobile Insurance

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

1 year recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

1. Demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing skills, various medical procedures, views, and equipment.
2. Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
3. Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
4. Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
5. Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline.
6. General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
7. Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
8. Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
9. Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
