BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated Emergency team for Mid Shift. The role involves anesthesia induction/monitoring, triage, radiography, vital signs interpretation, CPR, IV access, and mentoring colleagues within a fast-paced setting.

Base pay ranges from $27.00 to $51.00 per hour, with shift differentials. Benefits include CE allowances, licensure support, and comprehensive health and retirement options.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using appropriate equipment.
• Triage emergencies and monitor vitals: temp, HR, RR, BP.
• Perform digital radiography with correct patient positioning.
• Interpret vital signs and alert veterinarians to changes.
• Initiate CPR for patients at risk of arrest.
• Place IV catheters and perform phlebotomy as needed.
• Mentor and train junior staff and maintain client empathy.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated Emergency team for Mid Shift.

Schedule: Wed-Thurs 12pm-2am + Sat 8pm-8am

Base Pay: $27.00 - $51.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.50/hr.
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.50/hr.
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $8.00/hr.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
