Job summary

Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, NY is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician for its new Dentistry & Oral Surgery service. This full-time role focuses on advanced nursing care for dentistry patients, anesthesia, and collaboration with board-certified specialists and a growing specialty team.

The ideal candidate will have AVMA-accredited training, an active LVT license, and strong experience in anesthesia and surgery. Excellent communication and English fluency are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program.
• Current Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
• Strong experience with veterinary anesthesia and patient monitoring.
• Experience assisting with surgery and dentistry procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced nursing care and technical support for dentistry and oral surgery patients.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery.
• Obtain dental radiographs and assist with CT imaging if indicated.
• Prepare patients and maintain sterile surgical suite and equipment.
• Collaborate with specialists and technicians to establish workflows.

This full-time opportunity is ideal for a Licensed Veterinary Technician who is passionate about dentistry, anesthesia, and specialty medicine and is excited to help build a new specialty department while working alongside an experienced team in one of the Northeast's premier emergency and specialty animal hospitals.

Compensation

• $28.00-$38.00/hour, based on experience, skills, and licensure

Schedule

• Full-Time; Four-day work week

As a Veterinary Technician, you will provide advanced nursing care and technical support for patients undergoing specialty dentistry and oral surgical procedures while working closely with board-certified specialists and the hospital's collaborative specialty teams.

• Perform complete patient assessments and accurately document medical records
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
• Deliver exceptional nursing care for hospitalized and outpatient dentistry patients
• Monitor patient comfort and advocate for effective pain management
• Educate clients on dental disease, treatment plans, home care, and discharge instructions
• Assist with advanced dental procedures, oral surgery, biopsies, maxillofacial procedures, and specialty dentistry services
• Obtain high-quality dental radiographs and assist with advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT when indicated
• Prepare patients for procedures, including positioning, instrumentation, and aseptic preparation
• Induce, intubate, monitor, and recover patients undergoing anesthesia for dental and oral surgical procedures
• Utilize advanced anesthetic monitoring equipment and respond appropriately to anesthetic complications
• Develop individualized anesthetic monitoring plans for complex cases under veterinary supervision
• Prepare and maintain surgical suites, instruments, and sterile packs
• Maintain dental equipment, imaging systems, monitoring devices, and operatories
• Assist with inventory management and ordering of dental supplies and instruments
• Support regulatory compliance, infection control, and department safety standards
• Collaborate with specialists and fellow Veterinary Technicians to help establish workflows and best practices as this new specialty service continues to grow

Qualifications

Required

• Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program
• Current Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)
• Strong experience with veterinary anesthesia and patient monitoring
• Experience assisting with surgery
• Experience performing or assisting with veterinary dentistry procedures
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced specialty veterinary hospital
• Commitment to exceptional patient care and client service
• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Preferred

• Specialty, referral, or emergency hospital experience
• Previous veterinary dentistry and oral surgery experience
• Experience with dental radiography
• Familiarity with advanced anesthesia techniques and monitoring equipment
• Interest in pursuing advanced dental training and continued professional development
