Job summary

Elk Creek Animal Hospital of Hikes Point in Louisville, Kentucky, is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our two-doctor small animal practice on a full-time basis. We offer a four-day workweek with weekends off to support a healthy work-life balance.

As a VT, you’ll perform venipuncture, monitor anesthesia, assist during surgery and dental procedures, educate clients, and maintain accurate medical records.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician credentials required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or equivalent training.
• Proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques.
• Experience with venipuncture and catheter placement.
• Experience administering medications and treatments.
• Familiarity with veterinary software systems and accurate medical record keeping.
• Strong communication and client education skills.
• Collaborative approach and commitment to a positive hospital culture.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection.
• Run in-house laboratory testing (CBC/chemistry, urinalysis, cytology, fecals, etc.).
• Support surgical and dental procedures, including preparation and monitoring.
• Monitor anesthesia and patient vitals during procedures.
• Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterility of instruments and equipment.
• Educate clients about patient care, medications, and preventive care.
• Accurately document patient care and treatments in the medical record.
• Collaborate with the veterinary team to maintain efficient workflow.
