Job summary

The Bridgeport Port Jefferson Ferry seeks a Licensed Third Assistant Engineer to join our engine department aboard the vessel serving Bridgeport and Port Jefferson communities. Responsibilities include daily engine maintenance, lubrication, and supporting the engineer on duty with operations.

Applicants must hold a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential, a Third Assistant Engineer License, a TWIC card, and a high school diploma. Drug test and physical are required.

Qualifications

• Coast Guard credential required for marine engineering roles.
• Third Assistant Engineer License or equivalent credentials.
• TWIC card required for access to secure port facilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Maintain engine room cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
• Lubricate, clean, and paint machinery spaces in engine department.
• Assist with daily maintenance of main and auxiliary machinery.
• Assist in overhauling engines and components.
• Support safety and security duties as assigned.
• Instruct oilers and wipers on proper equipment use.
• Coordinate inventory of engineering supplies.
• Other duties as assigned by Captain or Engineer.
