Albemarle County Public Schools is seeking licensed retired substitute teachers to support All Schools in Charlottesville, VA. This part-time position requires completing the new hire process, background checks, fingerprinting, and TB screening, with the county covering these costs.
Eligible retirees will receive a one-time $250 bonus after becoming active substitutes and teaching at least one day within the first six months, plus an $168 increase to the daily rate and license renewal support

Please note that in order to be in compliance with VRS, we are not able to contact employees who retire in July of 2026 untilSeptember 1, 2026.
Essential Functions:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following actions:
Candidates must be retired Albemarle County Public School Teachers and hold an activeteaching license.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas.Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contactwith children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contactwith other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contactwith medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parentsand by phone is necessary.
