Job summary

NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities in New York is seeking a licensed practical nurse to provide direct patient care under supervision of a registered nurse, physician, or other licensed provider. You will perform nursing tasks aligned with treatment plans to maintain health and alleviate suffering.

Duties include assisting with examinations, recording vital signs, administering medications, observing changes, documenting care, and supporting daily living activities.

Qualifications

• A license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
• Or a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
• Or an application on file for a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State. (You must be approved immediately following graduation from an approved school of practical nursing in New York State to qualify under this option.)
• Note: If you are appointed with either qualification "B" or "C," you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited permit was issued, or steps will be taken to remove you from the position.

Responsibilities

• Assists licensed health care providers in identifying needs and participates in plans to address goals.
• Administers medications and nursing procedures as prescribed.
• Obtains and records temperatures, blood pressures, pulse rates, and other vital signs.
• Observes, monitors, and records symptoms to aid diagnosis and treatment and reports changes to supervising staff.
• Prepares individuals for examinations and treatments.
• Maintains charts and records of conditions and treatments.
• Attends to personal needs and activities of daily living and hygiene.
• Educates and counsels individuals and families regarding health, goals, and procedures.
