Job summary

New York Health (NYH) in Manhattan is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Urology department. You will update EMR records, assist physicians, manage supplies, prepare exam rooms, and educate patients on medications and home care.

The role requires NYS LPN licensure, BLS, IV competency, and strong communication. Travel to NYH locations may be needed; benefits include health insurance, dental, vision, life, and retirement plans.

Responsibilities

• Update and maintain the electronic medical record with up-to-date vital signs, patient demographics, medication reconciliation, allergies and diagnoses.
• Manage Physician inbox messages and prioritize tasks in the EMR.
• Assist in maintaining medical inventory and stock rooms to ensure supplies for physician staff.
• Prepare rooms and escort patients to exam rooms.
• Educate patients on medications, disease management, home care, and diets.
• Assist physicians during exams and procedures and administer injections.
• Perform venipuncture and collect lab specimens; conduct point-of-care testing and EKGs.
• Administer medications under physician order and follow medication rights to minimize errors.

Job Description

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Urology

Location: Manhattan, NY

Hours/Days: 5/8.5 hour shifts, Mon-Fri between 8:00am-6:00pm

In This Role, You Will

• Update and maintain the electronic medical record with up to date vital signs, patient demographics, medication reconciliation, allergies and medical diagnoses.
• Manage Physician inbox messages and prioritize tasks assigned via the electronic medical record.
• Assist in maintaining the medical inventory; place orders for new materials and stock rooms to ensure adequate supplies for physician staff.
• Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
• Escort patients to exam rooms.
• Provide patient education concerning medications, management of diseases, home treatments, and special diets.
• Assist physician with exams and/or procedures.
• Prepare and administer Injections.
• Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
• Perform point of care lab testing.
• Perform EKGs.
• Administer and document medication under a physician's order and follows the five (5) medication rights and reduce the potential for medical error.
• Be cross-trained in infusion & intake.

We Require

• Current NYS LPN license required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• IV Competency required.
• Consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals.
• Experience with EMR's.
• Reliable transportation to any of NYH locations for patient care needs.
