Job summary

Highpoint Health Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Medical Surgical unit. This full-time day shift (3x12, 7a-7p) includes rotating weekends to deliver patient-centered care in a supportive Med-Surg environment.

The role emphasizes collaboration with RNs, adherence to standards, and compassionate patient care. A TN LPN license with completed Practical Nursing Program is required, plus BLS within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Current Tennessee or compact state LPN license and completed a Practical Nursing Program.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• One-year previous experience preferred.
• LPN License for the State of Tennessee
• Graduate of a Practical Nursing program

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care under supervision and delegation by a registered nurse.
• Contributes to patient assessment by collecting data for RN review.
• Performs plan of care interventions, including specimen collection and wound care; may administer medications; documents care.
• Assists RN with development of plan of care.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (hygiene, nutrition, ambulation).
• Monitors and communicates patient status and reactions to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and families.
• Advocates for the patient’s physical and emotional well-being.

How you'll contribute

• As supervised and delegated by a registered nurse, provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
• Under the direction of an RN or Med-Surge Charge Nurse, contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN.
• Performs plan of care interventions, including specimen collection and wound care. May administer medication. Documents patient care given.
• Assists RN with development of plan of care.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Monitors, documents, and communicates patient's status and reactions to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and families.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

What we're looking for
