Job summary

SoftPath Medical is seeking a registered nurse to join our obstetrics team in Dayton, Ohio. Availability is required for the 2nd shift. The position offers 36–40 hours per week with rotating weekends and may require staying beyond scheduled hours to cover the next shift until staffing is full.

Candidates must be local; PRN and travel nurses are not eligible. A minimum of one year of general RN experience is required (experience in mental health or psychiatric nursing is excluded).

Shift and Hours

Obstetrics Duties
  • Provide nursing care within the scope defined by applicable state regulations under supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. Examples include:
    • Administering oxygen
    • Applying sterile dressings
    • Inserting catheters and reinserting gastrostomy tubes
    • Suctioning and irrigating wounds
    • Administering enemas and douches
    • Collecting specimens
    • Performing dialysis treatments, operating hemodialysis equipment, and monitoring patients during procedures
    • Assisting physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests
    • Providing emergency care such as first aid, CPR, and patient restraint
    • Administering controlled substances (e.g., narcotics, minor tranquilizers) and non-controlled medications via oral, rectal, topical, intramuscular, and subcutaneous routes, and instructing patients on medication use
  • Maintain medication accountability, including charting patient records, preparing and counting medications, and managing medication inventory and medical supplies.
  • Observe, document, and report patient conditions such as medication reactions, treatment responses, behavior, and progress; prepare and maintain related documentation including incident reports, patient records, medication reports, seclusion/restraint logs, patient kardex, and team plans.
  • Provide general nursing care, direct care, and support programming, including:
    • Taking vital signs
    • Assisting with personal grooming, hygiene, bathing, and daily living activities
    • Administering topical ointments and solutions, as well as eye, ear, and nose drops
    • Repositioning patients and responding to patient alarms
    • Scheduling medical appointments and escorting patients
    • Assisting with recreational activities and facilitating one-on-one or group activities according to treatment plans
  • Provide guidance, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff (such as hospital aides, orderlies, psychiatric attendants) in delivering basic nursing care including dressing, bathing, and feeding patients.
  • Participate in meetings such as staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service training, and nursing meetings as assigned.
  • Order medications and medical supplies; maintain cleanliness of the nurses' station and medication areas, including sterilizing and restocking medication carts and cleaning medication refrigerators.
  • Perform clerical duties such as answering phones and filing.
