Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Gatewood Urology
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care or arrange for the provision of appropriate care, for patients, as pertinent to the scope of nursing practice and specialty of the office setting.
- Appropriately and accurately document all patient care/interactions in the patient medical record.
- Participate in telephone triage by obtaining clinically appropriate data and symptoms from the patient and advise/instruct patients according to established protocols and/or provider orders.
- Ensure that all ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests are tracked and logged; present test results to the provider.
- Pre-visit planning with the provider and care team.
- Medication administration, including injections.
- Check vital signs, height, and weight.
- Review medical history and update the medication list.
- Assist with health maintenance requirements and patient inquiries as needed.
- Assist providers during procedures and examinations; perform instrument and room cleanup.
- Adhere to standard precautions and comply with applicable policies and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, CLIA, TJC).
- Report patient condition and reaction to the provider following procedures, medication administration, or treatments.
- Participate in electronic documentation of care as directed by the provider.
- May enter orders in EMR (CPOE) per provider order.
- Perform CLIA-waived laboratory tests and point-of-care testing as applicable, including quality control and maintenance.
- Perform venipuncture and assist with specimen collection as needed; prepare specimens for transport.
- Provide patient with a summary and review of the visit outcomes.
- Manage vaccine and pharmaceutical orders in accordance with state regulations and monitor inventory of clinical supplies for the practice setting.
Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse with current license to practice in the applicable state (location-dependent).
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Practical Nursing.
- Previous medical office experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per policy guidelines.
Physical Requirements
- Work involving walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
- Ability to speak, read, and write basic English fluently.
- Senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch.
- Manual finger dexterity.
