Licensed Nursing Home Administrator
Position Overview

The Licensed Nursing Home Administrator is responsible for the overall operations, performance, compliance, and quality of care within a skilled nursing or long-term care facility. This role provides leadership across clinical support, resident services, staffing, employee relations, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and financial performance.

The Administrator establishes a culture focused on resident‑centered care, ethical business practices, employee engagement, and operational excellence. The position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to respond to operational needs outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
Facility Operations & Leadership
  • Maintain overall responsibility and accountability for facility operations and ensure effective day-to-day management.
  • Establish a positive organizational culture that supports the facility’s mission, values, and commitment to quality resident care.
  • Promote ethical business practices and ensure decisions are made in accordance with applicable policies, regulations, and professional standards.
  • Delegate appropriate authority, responsibility, and accountability to department leaders and other employees to ensure effective execution of assigned duties.
  • Remain available during off‑hours and weekends as necessary to address operational needs and urgent matters.
Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor standards of care, quality indicators, clinical outcomes, and other performance measures.
  • Incorporate quality data and performance results into ongoing QAPI initiatives.
  • Participate in the analysis of performance issues and develop and implement corrective action plans when established quality thresholds are not met.
  • Promote continuous improvement across facility operations, resident care, and service delivery.
Regulatory Compliance & Resident Rights
  • Ensure facility operations comply with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and industry standards.
  • Ensure resident rights are respected and integrated into all aspects of resident care and facility operations.
  • Oversee the investigation, documentation, reporting, and follow‑up of incidents, complaints, and other matters requiring administrative attention.
  • Partner with the Medical Director to ensure licensed independent practitioners are appropriately credentialed and operate within applicable policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of changes in healthcare regulations and implement necessary operational updates.
Staffing, Recruitment & Employee Relations
  • Oversee recruitment, selection, hiring, and onboarding processes to ensure appropriate staffing levels across budgeted positions.
  • Establish and lead recruitment and retention initiatives designed to attract and retain qualified employees.
  • Lead or participate in regular recruitment and retention committee meetings.
  • Ensure employee coaching, counseling, performance management, and disciplinary actions are handled consistently and in accordance with established policies.
  • Participate in employee termination decisions and ensure all employment actions comply with applicable policies and federal and state employment laws.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment requirements, including equal employment opportunity, wage and hour regulations, immigration requirements, child labor laws, and other relevant employment standards.
Census & Financial Management
  • Monitor facility census, payer mix, and Medicare/Medicaid acuity to support operational and financial objectives.
  • Work toward meeting or exceeding established census and acuity targets.
  • Manage facility expenses within approved budgetary guidelines.
  • Monitor supply and expense accounts and maintain appropriate spending controls.
  • Review financial and operational performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and resource utilization.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work collaboratively with clinical, administrative, financial, human resources, and operational leadership.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, employees, physicians, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as a visible and accountable leader within the facility.
  • Foster teamwork, professionalism, and a resident‑focused environment throughout the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Current Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license in New Hampshire or eligibility for reciprocity.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Nursing Home Administrator or two years of supervisory experience in a healthcare facility combined with successful completion of an Administrator-in-Training (AIT) program.
  • Strong understanding of nursing home operations, regulatory requirements, quality improvement, staffing, and resident care standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership and employee management experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as operational needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing a skilled nursing, long‑term care, or post‑acute care facility.
  • Experience with QAPI programs and quality performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid requirements and reimbursement models.
  • Experience with census management, staffing optimization, and facility budgeting.
  • Familiarity with federal and state healthcare regulations and survey processes.
  • Experience developing employee recruitment and retention programs.
