Job summary

PetVet Care Centers' Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists - Bohemia is seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant (Day Shift) to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, meds, and clerical duties. You will help with exams, restraining patients, and surgery prep while delivering quality care.

Responsibilities include triage, vital signs, lab work, radiographs, and client communication.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Emergency experience required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and owners and take vital signs.
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, and administer medication under LVT supervision.
• Calm anxious patients.
• Assist with medication administration and restraint.
• Perform laboratory tests and radiographs.
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump).
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, and maintain controlled drug logs.
• Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, and report abnormal conditions.
• Communicate positively with clients.
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans.
• Maintain cleanliness of hospital, including equipment, kennels, and facilities, and perform laundry duties.
• Provide baths and care for overnight patients, ensuring groomed releases.
• Adhere to safety and wellness regulations.
• Follow oral and written directions.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
