Position Overview

The Licensed Mental Health Practitioner delivers direct behavioral health services within a federally contracted ICE short‑term residential facility in Alexandria, LA. The provider supports stabilization, crisis response, and emotional well‑being using trauma‑informed, culturally responsive approaches and works in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment requiring flexibility and strong interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Clinical Services
  • Conduct behavioral health screenings, assessments, and clinical evaluations.
  • Provide brief counseling, stabilization, crisis intervention, and supportive therapeutic services.
  • Identify and respond to acute stress reactions, trauma‑related symptoms, behavioral concerns, and mental health crises.
  • Develop recommendations for treatment, referral, and follow‑up care as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional, organizational, and regulatory requirements.
Crisis Intervention & De‑escalation
  • Respond to behavioral incidents using trauma‑informed, de‑escalation techniques.
  • Support individuals in distress using calm, non‑coercive interventions.
  • Collaborate with clinical or supervisory staff when escalation, referral, or additional support is needed.
Trauma‑Informed & Culturally Responsive Care
  • Deliver services that prioritize safety, dignity, and empowerment.
  • Adapt interactions to the developmental and situational needs of individuals served.
  • Provide care that is respectful of language, culture, and personal experience.
  • Support communication and orientation efforts in an individual’s preferred language when possible.
Coordination & Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate with medical providers, case management staff, and other multidisciplinary team members to support continuity of care.
  • Participate in shift briefings, case discussions, and incident reviews.
  • Support referrals and continuity of care as appropriate.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation.
  • Comply with all confidentiality, reporting, ethical, and professional practice requirements.li>
  • Support compliance with applicable program standards and policies.
Required Qualifications & Core Competencies
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • One of the following therapist credentials: LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or LMSW.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in behavioral health or social services.
  • Experience working diverse populations of all ages.
  • Strong skills in crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to function effectively in rapid, high‑pressure environments.
Desired Skills
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or another commonly encountered language.
  • Experience in emergency shelter or residential settings, short‑term or high‑turnover care environments.
  • Training or demonstrated experience in trauma‑informed care; motivational interviewing.
  • Familiarity with working in multidisciplinary care teams.
Conditions of Employment
  • Employees must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of federal background investigation (Tier 4 DHS clearance), criminal history check, verification of employment and education history, compliance with all government credentialing requirements, and drug screening.
  • Must adhere to all federal security, confidentiality, and operational protocols while working within government facilities.
  • Must speak, read, and write in English.
  • Must be able to work additional hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. internal background check to the satisfaction of contract requirements.
  • Optional child abuse/neglect report (CAN) or child protective services check with no adverse findings.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during facility operations (up to 8–12 hours per shift).
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations throughout the facility.
  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods while completing documentation and screenings.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions (indoor/outdoor, temperature variations).
  • Visual acuity for reading medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Auditory ability to monitor the clinical environment, communicate with patients and staff, and detect signs of distress.
Work Environment

Fully on‑site position at a federally contracted short‑term residential ICE facility in Alexandria, LA. Work schedules may include shifts overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Fast‑paced, high‑tempo operational environment requiring composure, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism at all times.
