Job summary

Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center, part of NYC Health + Hospitals, seeks a licensed Mental Health Counselor to provide counseling and psycho-education to clients with less complex cases. Under supervision, you will conduct assessments, support treatment planning, and coordinate care across departments and community resources.

You will document clinical histories, participate in training, and may mentor volunteers and students.

Qualifications

• Valid license and current registration to practice as a Mental Health Counselor issued by the NYSED.
• Two years of full-time, paid, professional experience providing direct client care in a behavioral health setting.

Responsibilities

• Provides mental health counseling and psycho-education services to clients with less complex cases.
• Participates in interviewing and case history taking using appropriate assessment tools.
• Consults with relevant mental health professionals regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and disposition recommendations; helps formulate treatment plans.
• Coordinates with personnel to counsel and assist clients with applications and documentation for educational, vocational, and entitlement programs.
• Acts as a resource to clients seeking additional support on services within health care and the community.
• Prepares and maintains accurate records of patient contact information and clinical histories.
• Participates in internal and external training conferences.
• May participate in treatment programs assisting other personnel.
• May supervise support staff in related areas.
• May assist in supervision of volunteers, interns, and students.
