Job summary

Cuhaci Peterson® is seeking a Lead Licensed Mechanical Project Engineer to guide the design and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems across commercial, retail, institutional, and mixed-use projects. You will lead technical teams, coordinate with project managers, architects, clients and consultants, ensure codes compliance, and may serve as Engineer of Record when assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Active PE license is required.
8–10 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems.
Proven experience leading engineering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems.
Experience serving as Engineer of Record preferred.
Demonstrated client-facing and project leadership experience.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and engineering of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical building systems.
Perform and oversee engineering calculations, load analyses, equipment selections, and system evaluations.
Develop practical and cost-effective engineering solutions that align with project objectives.
Exercise independent engineering judgment with minimal supervision.
Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company design practices.
Review, validate, and approve technical designs, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned.
Collaborate with Project Managers and project teams to establish project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
Develop discipline-specific work plans and estimate engineering hours required to complete project assignments.
Monitor project progress and proactively address technical, schedule, and coordination challenges.
Coordinate with internal project teams and external consultants to ensure successful project execution.
Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and field issue resolution.
Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
Mentor and develop junior staff through coaching, training, and technical support.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Promote professional integrity and represent the best interests of both the client and the company.
