Job summary

Trident Seafoods seeks a highly skilled Mate (500 GRT) to join our vessel operations in Seattle. You will assist the Master in directing deck, navigation, processing and safety activities while upholding our compliance standards.

Ideal candidates bring at least 2 years as Mate in the fishery, USCG Mate license, plus STCW and CPR/First Aid. You’ll oversee crew safety drills, budgets, and capital project coordination, with a focus on reliability and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid USCG Mate License of 500 GRT or greater.
• Minimum 2 years experience as Mate in the fishery.
• Intermediate firefighting skills.
• Basic navigation and communication skills.
• Ability to conduct safety drills for crew and guests.
• Ability to manage medical/first aid needs on board.
• Appropriate licenses/permits (e.g., CG license, STCW) when required.
• Current First Aid and CPR cards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with pre-season and day-to-day vessel operations, and act in Master’s absence per policy and laws.
• Collaborate with Corporate Manager and Master on capital projects including budgeting and compliance.
• Help set performance and operation standards for deck and navigation systems.
• Oversee required documentation for vessel functions.
• Analyze HR needs for short- and long-term projects.
• Advise Master on feasibility and cost-effectiveness of projects.
• Design and implement training to ensure staff compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Forecast operating costs and assist with budget requests.
• Provide leadership and interpretation of company policies for deck activities.
• Maintain knowledge of new technologies to improve operations.
