Job summary

The Boring Company seeks a licensed Fire Life Safety Engineer to own the design and stamping of fire protection and life safety systems for Loop tunnel projects in Las Vegas and Nashville. This role focuses on developing code-compliant fire and life safety designs for underground transit environments, stamping drawings, and ensuring systems meet NFPA and AHJ requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Active PE license with ability to stamp fire protection drawings (Nevada and/or Tennessee preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing fire protection and life safety systems, with direct experience stamping drawings.
• Strong working knowledge of NFPA 502, NFPA 72, NFPA 13/14.
• Experience stamping drawings and coordinating with AHJs on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering design of fire detection, alarm, suppression, standpipe, and emergency communication systems for tunnel and station environments.
• Stamp and seal fire protection and life safety drawings as a licensed Professional Engineer.
• Ensure all designs comply with NFPA 502 and related codes, local AHJ requirements, and project standards.
• Coordinate with internal teams to integrate fire/life safety systems into tunnel design and construction.
• Interface with AHJs, fire marshals, and third-party reviewers during design review and permitting.
• Develop and maintain company design standards, specifications, and calculation methodologies.
• Support system commissioning, performance verification, and field issue resolution.
• Evaluate risks including EV battery hazards and apply performance-based design where appropriate.
• Improve design efficiency, reliability, and constructability as projects scale.
