The George Washington University seeks a Licensed Case Manager within the Student Health Center to support student wellness and autonomy through advocacy, education, and coordinated care.

Based at Foggy Bottom, Washington, DC, this full-time role offers a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5pm, on-site. The candidate will triage care, coordinate with providers, and educate students and families about health services.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a mental health discipline (psychology, social work, or counseling) with at least 1 year of relevant professional experience.
  • Active, unrestricted mental health license required in DC or must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Must hold an active, unrestricted license in mental health in the District of Columbia within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Triaging psychiatric care evaluation requests from students, staff, and community members.
  • Taking brief history including assessment of suicidal risk to determine urgency.
  • Requesting and collecting treatment records prior to appointments or during treatment.
  • Coordinating with mental health and primary care providers for continuity of care.
  • Educating students, families, and the community about integrated healthcare services.
  • Managing referral processes and coordination during hospitalizations or outpatient care.
  • Assisting CAPS clinicians with placement of clients to higher levels of care when indicated.
  • Maintaining a community provider referral list for CAPS.
  • Providing support for CAPS crisis visits and administrative processes.

I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division for Student Affairs ( DSA ) cultivates an inclusive community that supports connection, growth, and well-being for every student throughout their GW journey. DSA’s integrated approach is to provide a cohesive student experience built upon the core values of genuine collaboration, a compassionate approach, and most importantly putting students as the center of the work. Within the Division for Student Affairs, The Student Health Center ( SHC ), a multidisciplinary, integrated, student healthcare service, serves as the primary mental health agency for GW students. One of our missions is to support students’ mental health and personal development by collaborating directly with students to overcome difficulties and challenges that may interfere with their academic, emotional, and personal success.

The Student Health Center seeks a Licensed Case Manager to manage client wellness and autonomy through advocacy, communication, education and the identification and facilitation of services. The Licensed Case Manager reports to the Lead Psychiatrist and to the Director of CAPS .

Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Triaging psychiatric care evaluation requests from students, clinical staff, GW faculty and staff, and all concerned community members.
  • Taking brief history of students including clinical assessment of suicidal risk to determine urgency of needs.
  • Requesting and collecting treatment records prior to appointments or during the course of treatment.
  • Coordinating with mental health and primary care providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Educating students, as well as families and the community, regarding the integrated healthcare services and policies.
  • Managing referral process, working with providers during hospitalizations or intensive/specialized outpatient care.
  • Assisting staff clinicians with CAPS in coordination and placement of clients to higher levels of care, when clinically indicated.
  • Assisting CAPS Case Manager with maintaining a community provider referral list.
  • Providing support for CAPS crisis visits.
  • Managing administrative processes in conjunction with integrated care.

Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold an advanced degree in a mental health discipline (psychology, social work, or counseling), plus one (1) year of relevant professional experience. A license in Washington, D.C. is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold an active, unrestricted license in mental health (eg. LGSW , ICWS , LPC , LGPC , LMFT , etc.) in the District of Columbia within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent clinical and interpersonal communication skills – in person, in writing, and via technology
  • Highly developed organizational and time management skills
  • Evidence of organizational understanding and an ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience in organizing and prioritizing workload to meet required deadlines and department objectives
  • Knowledge and experience with Word and Excel
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality, diversity, and multicultural issues
