Licensed Athletic Trainer
Job Description/Summary
The L/ATC shall be responsible for attending all sports activities as assigned by the Sports Medicine Coordinator, assisting team physicians as directed, maintaining written records on all athletes, and consulting with team physicians and coaches regarding injured athletes' status.
Summary
- Responsible for coverage of assigned athletic events.
- Responsible for rendering treatment as outlined by the physician for injured athletes.
- Responsible for assessment of injured athletes and proper referral to a physician.
- Responsible for communication with team coaches.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved college/university.
- Eligible/Certified through the National Athletic Trainers Association/BOC.
- Eligible/Licensed through the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers.
Physical Demands
Stands, turns, bends, lifts, climbs, and uses a variety of physical motions in performing daily activities. Must be able to stand for extended periods and walk extensively without extreme fatigue. Lifting and carrying equipment, supplies, and materials up to 50 lbs. independently; over 50 lbs. with assistance or mechanical aid. Operation of electrical equipment and exposure to infectious materials. Visual acuity to perceive reactions to injury and/or treatment.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to positive work demands and the overall team effort of the Sports Medicine team.
- Abide by ethics and standards established by the NATA.
- Attend athletic events as assigned, assisting the team physician when in attendance.
- Maintain communication with coaching staff regarding the status of injured players and schedule changes.
- Record progress on injured athletes on established forms.
- Refer athletic injuries to a physician for diagnosis and treatment.
- Perform treatments as ordered by a physician.
- Maintain proper equipment and supplies for athletic event coverage.
- Maintain a positive attitude of encouragement toward all athletes and staff.
- Attend and participate in department/clinic in-services.
- Report incidents or accidents involving self, patients/athletes, or staff in writing to the Sports Medicine Coordinator immediately.
Patient/Athlete Care
- Participate as a member of the healthcare team.
- Transport patients, maintain records, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Observe and record patient conditions, reactions, and responses; report to physicians or clinical directors.
- Ensure personal care and environment safety during treatment.
- Follow procedures and safety precautions for heat, cold, light, water, sound, electricity, and massage.
- Implement physician-prescribed rehabilitation protocols.
- Use rehabilitation equipment competently and according to training.
- Care for braces, prostheses, bandages, and other devices.
- Assist the team physician during assessment, stabilization, and transport of injured athletes.
Support Duties
- Keep immediate supervisor informed of relevant Sports Medicine information.
- Maintain supplies and equipment following procedures.
- Perform assigned duties by the Sports Medicine Coordinator and/or Clinical Director.
- Participate in conferences and in-service programs for continuing education.
