Job summary

Brightwater Health in Duluth, MN is seeking a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) to provide direct outpatient counseling to individuals and families. The role supports program operations and education within the community, coordinating referrals and resources.

You will conduct individual, family, and group counseling, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with service providers to address client needs while maintaining confidentiality and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a human service-related field and licensed with the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
• Has reliable transportation, proof of vehicle insurance, and valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Provide education and addictions counseling to individuals, families, and groups.
• Provide treatment planning per 245G and ASAM Criteria.
• Educate pregnant clients about effects of substances on the fetus as needed.
• Provide HIV, TB, Hepatitis, and STDs education to clients.
• Accept referrals from community sources and agencies.

• Conduct case conferencing with other agencies.
• Prepare and monitor program budget and expenditures.

Summary:

The Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) will provide direct outpatient counseling and support to individuals and/or families experiencing substance use disorder related challenges and will assist the program director with all aspects of outpatient treatment program operations. The LADC will provide individual, family, and group counseling, and will also be responsible for working with and providing education to a diverse population of individuals, families, and groups within the community. The LADC will have working relationships and be familiar with other service providers and community resources and will be able to provide information and support to make referrals that best meet client need.

Duties:

• Provide education and addictions counseling to individuals, families, and groups.
• Provide treatment planning per 245G and ASAM Criteria.
• Provide education and counseling to pregnant individuals about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the fetus, as needed.
• Provide education on HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and sexual transmitted diseases to individuals in the treatment program.
• Accept referrals from individuals, families, and agencies in the community.
• Provide screening for, and work with, clients with co-occurring disorders of substance use disorder and mental health disorder.
• Provide community education and support programs.
• Assist individuals to identify their need for treatment.
• Assist clients to meet all program requirements.
• Make referrals to community resources as needed.
• Access funding for alcohol and drug programs.
• Secure the confidentiality of all interactions and records.
• Provide follow-up services for individual clients transitioning from outpatient treatment.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment programs and develop outcome measures.
• Ensure legislation, standards, and guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
• Access and collect relevant information and resources.
• Distribute relevant information to all parties in need.
• Make visits and presentations to various groups and organizations, including school-aged children.
• Access or develop promotional materials and information, as needed.
• Ensure ongoing contact with agencies including the Health Center, RCMP, and schools.
• Participate on interagency working committees.
• Conduct case conferencing with other agencies.
• Provide education by presentations and workshops, as requested.
• Lobby agencies and organizations for programs and support.
• Maintain confidential written records of client information.
• Create and maintain notes about community contacts, presentations, and workshops.
• Maintain notes about suggestions for future presentations and programs.
• Maintain a resource library of information about addictions, preventions, FAS/E, and other related topics.
• Conduct all tasks with regard to any and all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Prepare and monitor the program budget.
• Approve expenditures within established signing authority.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a human service-related field and licensed with the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
• Has reliable transportation, proof of vehicle insurance, and valid driver's license.

Desired Qualifications:

• Have an active LGSW or LICSW as required by the Minnesota Board of Social Work. OR have an active LMFT or LAMFT as required by the Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy. OR, Have an active LPC or LPCC through Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.
• Working experience with adolescents.
