Position Summary: The Licensed Social Worker / Professional Counselor provides mental health care and support for the inmate/patient population in a correctional facility. This role involves assessing, planning, and delivering individualized treatment services while collaborating with the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure safe, effective, and rehabilitative mental health care.
Qualifications: Education & Licensure
- Master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field.
- Current and valid licensure as an LAC, LSW, LPC, or LCSW in the state where services are provided.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Services
- Conduct comprehensive mental health intakes, assessments, and crisis interventions.
- Provide individual and group counseling tailored to inmate/patient needs.
- Analyze psychosocial and behavioral factors to guide treatment planning and interventions.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team.
- Maintain accurate and timely progress notes, treatment documentation, and discharge summaries.
Treatment Team Collaboration
- Serve as an active member of the multidisciplinary treatment team to coordinate and optimize patient care.
- Provide observational feedback and professional insights within the team setting.
- Refer inmates/patients to appropriate external services upon release to ensure continuity of care.
Program & Environment Management
- Facilitate therapeutic group sessions addressing identified treatment needs.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for all inmates/patients.
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, ethical standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the behavioral health program.

- Strong clinical assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention skills.
- Knowledge of correctional mental health practices and trauma-informed care.

- Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations.
- Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.
- Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility.
