Job summary

Calaveras County Transportation Division is seeking a reliable Transportation Driver to support the County Library's material delivery operations across the county. You will transport books and media between branches, loading and unloading as needed, and ensure secure handling of all items.

Under supervision, you will follow departmental schedules, perform routine vehicle safety checks, and assist with related duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid California driver's license is required.
• Demonstrated safe driving record is highly desirable.

Under supervision, transports library materials between branch locations throughout the county; ensures secure handling of books and other library items; assists with loading, unloading, and distribution; performs related duties as required. The primary duties involve transporting library materials according to departmental schedules and directives; however, they may be assigned non-driving tasks as needed.

• Transports books, media, and other library materials between library branches, administrative offices, and other designated locations.
• Assists staff in loading and unloading materials from transport vehicles.
• Ensures the safety and security of library materials and staff during transport.
• Handles materials carefully to prevent damage; may assist with basic organization or sorting of items.
• Ensures materials adhere to delivery schedules and arrive on time; performs routine vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
• May assist library staff with related operational needs, such as preparing materials for circulation or supporting special projects.

Knowledge of:

Safe driving practices applicable to transportation of clients and other personnel.

Ability to:

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety, of individuals; effectively and efficiently follow departmental policies and procedures.

Skill to:

Accurately assess transport and safety needs; handle scheduling demands, ensuring timely transport of library material.

Education, Training, and Experience

Equivalent to high school education; demonstrated safe driving record highly desirable.

Possession of current and valid California driver's license.
