Job summary

Brooklyn Public Library seeks a Technology Resource Specialist (TRS) to promote effective use of technology and provide courteous, responsive support to technology-related issues. This full-time, union, non-exempt role offers a stable salary and opportunities for professional development.

The TRS will handle customer service, troubleshoot problems, train staff, and coordinate with IT and vendors to ensure smooth technology operations across branches. Evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 3–6 months related experience or training.
• Score of 80% or better on TRS exam.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows & MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Intermediate skills in Sierra, Bibliocommons and Overdrive Media; Knowledge of Pharos a plus.
• Knowledge of telecommunications technology.
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
• Knowledge of computer networking and wireless networks.
• Excellent customer service skills; Ability to work with diverse customer clientele.
• Ability to gather and analyze data.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem solving & communication skills (written & oral).
• Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Required to work evenings & weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous, responsive and accurate technology support to staff and patrons.
• Identify and troubleshoot technology problems; refer complex issues to IT Help Desk.
• Train and develop staff in use of library technology.
• Lead regular computer classes and create user training materials.
• Install peripheral equipment and coordinate hardware/software maintenance.
• Coordinate with IT department and third-party vendors for Level 2/3 support.
• Prioritize in-person requests and evaluate ease-of-use of hardware/software.
• Assist with evaluation of hardware/software and aid user performance.
• Open/close branch and participate in weekend shifts; support outreach.
