Job summary

Sacred Heart Catholic School-Uvalde seeks a Library & Technology Manager to maintain a welcoming library, support the instructional program, and partner with teachers and students in using library media resources.

Summary

The Library & Technology Manager maintains a professionally operated library with a welcoming and helpful atmosphere in which caring is encouraged, reading is fostered, and knowledge may grow. The Library & Technology Manager partners with teachers and students in the pursuit of learning through the use of library media center materials and equipment. The Library & Technology Manager provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to support the school’s instructional program.

Position Responsibilities
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Develop and promote the role of the library in the school
  • Work closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver the information skills curriculum
  • Promote the effective and efficient use of the library and library resources
  • Work with teaching staff to take a strategic approach to cultivating a love of reading in children
  • Manage the school library and library resources throughout the school.
  • Select, acquire, maintain and withdraw library stock, ensuring a balance between subject and ability.
  • Organize, catalogue and classify library resources, both electronic and print-based
  • Manage the school library budget in conjunction with the budget holder
  • Supervise and train staff and pupil librarians working in the library
  • Make the library attractive and accessible to all children and staff, including displays, guiding and publicity materials
  • Oversees computers, networks, and software to ensure they function effectively for educational purposes
  • Provides training for educators on new technology tools and troubleshooting issues that arise
  • Works with teachers and administrators to develop and implement technology plans that integrate digital tools into the classroom
  • Assists school in selecting and optimizing digital learning tools to improve teaching and learning outcomes
  • Keep the principal, staff and parents informed about the needs and development of the library and information service in the school
  • Respond to other duties as assigned
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of children's literature and children's resources to support the curriculum
  • Knowledge and understanding of library and information skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning, of educational issues
  • Awareness of child development and the role of reading in the educational development of the child
  • Knowledge of computers, networks, and software relevant to education
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • High School diploma
  • An Associate degree or sixty college hours preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree and completion of the ABLE course (23.5 hours) required for Secondary Schools
  • Evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, awareness of trends in children/young adult literature, material selections, appropriate selection of books, including quality children/young adult literature books, and basic reference skills.
  • Evidence of knowledge of technology and the desire to keep abreast in the developments of trends and advancements in educational technology
License and Credentials
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
  • Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening
Minimum Knowledge and Skills
  • Substantial library experience, with experience of working with schools or with children
  • Community links - Experience of liaising with local literacy events and promoting them in school
  • Experience of organizing literacy and other events within school, e.g. visiting authors.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills.
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
