Job summary

GEO Secured Services in the United States is seeking a Library Technician to maintain daily library operations in a secure facility environment. Under general supervision, you will handle ordering, cataloging, circulation, and inventory of books and periodicals, and assist detainee library aides.

You will work with instructors to provide library orientation, select materials, and report on circulation and inventories.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in library sciences or related field preferred or provisional/professional Librarian Certification.
• Experience and/or training preferred in assisting in the operation of a small institutional library.

Responsibilities

• The Library Technician maintains and organizes the circulation of library materials.
• Assists in the directing and training of detainee library aides.
• The Library Technician assists in the selection of library books, periodicals and materials for purchase.
• Conducts library inventories. Prepares, maintains and reports appropriate records pertaining to circulation, inventory, newspapers and magazines.
• May assist in conducting library orientation for classes in coordination with instructors.

Provides information and assistance on use of the card catalog.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
• Bachelor’s degree in library sciences or related field or provisional/professional Librarian Certification preferred.
• Experience and/or training preferred in assisting in the operation of a small institutional library preferred.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
