Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. is hiring a Library Technician to maintain daily library operations, including ordering, cataloging, circulation, and management of periodicals and materials.

The role supports instruction and access for inmates within GEO facilities. Under supervision, you will train detainee library aides, assist in selecting books and materials, conduct inventories, and coordinate orientation with instructors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in library sciences or related field preferred.
• Experience in operating a small institutional library preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and organizes the circulation of library materials.
• Assists in directing and training detainee library aides.
• Assists in selecting library books, periodicals and materials for purchase.
• Conducts library inventories and reports on circulation, inventories, newspapers and magazines.
• May assist in library orientation for classes in coordination with instructors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary:

The Library Technician, under general supervision, assists in performing overall daily maintenance of the library to include ordering, cataloging, classifying, circulation, and maintaining all library periodicals, books, and materials. Provides information and assistance on use of the card catalog.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• The Library Technician maintains and organizes the circulation of library materials.
• Assists in the directing and training of detainee library aides.
• The Library Technician assists in the selection of library books, periodicals and materials for purchase.
• Conducts library inventories. Prepares, maintains and reports appropriate records pertaining to circulation, inventory, newspapers and magazines.
• The Library Technician may assist in conducting library orientation for classes in coordination with instructors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
• Bachelor’s degree in library sciences or related field or provisional/professional Librarian Certification preferred.
• Experience and/or training preferred in assisting in the operation of a small institutional library preferred.
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
