Job summary

GEO Secured Services is seeking a Library Technician to manage daily library operations within a correctional setting. You will handle cataloging, circulation, and materials maintenance, ensuring accessibility and order for inmates and staff.

Under direct supervision, you will support inventories, orientations, and related library activities, while collaborating with educators and instructors to provide resources and services. Training and development opportunities are included.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree in library sciences or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Library Technician maintains and organizes the circulation of library materials.
• Assists in directing and training detainee library aides.
• Assists in selecting library books, periodicals, and materials for purchase.
• Conducts library inventories. Maintains records pertaining to circulation, inventory, newspapers, and magazines.
• May assist in conducting library orientation for classes in coordination with instructors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary: The Library Technician under direct supervision assists in performing overall daily maintenance of the library to include ordering, cataloging, classifying, circulation, and maintaining all library periodicals, books, and materials. Provides information and assistance on use of the card catalog.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Library Technician maintains and organizes the circulation of library materials.
• Assists in the directing and training of detainee library aides.
• The Library Technician assists in the selection of library books, periodicals, and materials for purchase.
• Conducts library inventories. Prepares, maintains, and reports appropriate records pertaining to circulation, inventory, newspapers, and magazines.
• The Library Technician may assist in conducting library orientation for classes in coordination with instructors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
• Bachelor's degree in library sciences or related field or provisional/professional Librarian Certification preferred.
• Experience and/or training preferred in assisting in the operation of a small institutional library preferred.
