Job summary

GEO Secured Services is seeking a Library Technician to join our team and support daily library operations within the facility. Under general supervision, you will assist in ordering, cataloging, circulation, and maintaining all library periodicals, books, and materials, while guiding detainee aides and providing user assistance.

This role requires a high school diploma; a library science degree or librarian certification is preferred, and prior experience in a small institutional library is

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in library sciences or related field preferred.
• Experience and/or training preferred in assisting in the operation of a small institutional library preferred.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and organize the circulation of library materials.
• Assist in directing and training detainee library aides.
• Assist in the selection of library books, periodicals and materials for purchase.
• Conduct library inventories. Prepare, maintain and report appropriate records pertaining to circulation, inventory, newspapers and magazines.
• May assist in conducting library orientation for classes in coordination with instructors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary: The Library Technician, under general supervision, assists in performing overall daily maintenance of the library to include ordering, cataloging, classifying, circulation, and maintaining all library periodicals, books, and materials. Provides information and assistance on use of the card catalog.

• The Library Technician assists in the selection of library books, periodicals and materials for purchase.
• Conducts library inventories. Prepares, maintains and reports appropriate records pertaining to circulation, inventory, newspapers and magazines.
