Job summary

Belmont University is seeking a Student Employee to provide overnight building oversight and essential support for the library’s operations. You will monitor entrances, assist students with questions and printing, and help ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all users.

Responsibilities include hourly building walks, enforcing policies, coordinating with campus security, and executing closing procedures. Must be enrolled at Belmont and able to work three evening shifts per week.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a current Belmont University student.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Three shifts available: 8 pm–11 pm, 11 pm–3 am, 3 am–7 am.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

To provide oversight of the building and essential support to the library's overnight operations, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for students and faculty.

  • Monitor building entrances and common areas to maintain a safe environment. Ensure that only authorized individuals access the premises.
  • Provide assistance to students, including answering questions, giving directions, providing printing support, and helping with access to facilities.
  • Conduct hourly walks of the building to identify and report any security issues or safety concerns.
  • Adhere to library building policies and ensure students are adhering to these policies during overnight hours.
  • Maintain effective communication with library personnel, campus security, and other relevant departments.
  • Execute building closing procedures.

Sedentary work. Occasionally requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying and climbing, reaching both high and low. Frequently requires walking and balancing. Constantly requires sitting, repetitious finger and wrist movement, speaking clearly, hearing conversations, hearing (with acuity), seeing near and far with depth perception and color vision.

Required Qualifications
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Graduate students preferred.

  • Good customer service and professional communication skills/phone etiquette,
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to assist others.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint, and other internet-based programs.
  • Must be reliable, self-directed, trustworthy, and responsible.
  • The student should be observant and constantly aware of his/her surroundings, have good judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse population.
  • Ability to perform duties that may include standing for long periods, patrolling the building, and responding quickly to emergencies.
Required Education

Must be enrolled as a current student at Belmont University.

Required Experience
  • Some previous front desk or public service experience helpful.
  • Previous Library experience is helpful but not required.
