Job summary

Joliet Public Library is seeking a dependable Security Guard to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for patrons, staff, and visitors. The role includes patrolling buildings and grounds, monitoring activities, and enforcing Rules of Conduct.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous security experience or training preferred.
• Knowledge of security best practices.
• Ability to remain alert and calm while responding quickly and decisively.
• Strong judgment and the ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong communication skills, including radio communication.
• Ability to prepare accurate written reports.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and email.
• Ability to learn library policies and procedures.
• Professional, patient approach with patrons of all ages.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the library and exterior grounds to ensure safety.
• Monitor activity and address disruptions.
• Enforce Rules of Conduct firmly and professionally.
• Complete opening and closing procedures and secure the building.
• Check doors/windows and monitor the alarm system.
• Respond to safety concerns and contact emergency services when needed.
• Provide assistance to staff and escort patrons when requested.
• Document incidents with clear, timely reports.
• Operate security cameras and radios as part of daily duties.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
