Job summary

St. Louis County Library is seeking a Public Safety Specialist to join the Administration Department.

In a public library setting, you will help ensure a welcoming, safe environment for staff, patrons, and library assets, reporting to the Manager of Safety & Security. The role requires 3–5 years of security/public-facing experience, strong communication and de-escalation skills, and readiness to obtain CPR/First Aid and AED certifications.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree or 60 hours college credit preferred.
• Three-five years experience in security, social services, or related work with the public.
• Excellent communication skills, including customer service, conflict resolution, and de-escalation.
• Experience with underserved populations preferred.
• Willing to obtain Adult CPR/First Aid and AED; Mental Health First Aid Certification.
• Unarmed Security License issued by St Louis County Police.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service while creating a safe, welcoming environment for employees and patrons.
• Collaborate with management and staff to maintain safety.
• Conduct quarterly safety and security risk assessments.
• Serve as liaison with local law enforcement and emergency personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
