Job summary

Alabama-A library is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to support research for students, faculty, and staff in the LRC. The role includes evening and weekend coverage, assisting with locating and interpreting information from the ILS, and overseeing library operations during off-hours.

The position requires an associate degree or two years of college coursework (bachelor's preferred) and at least two years in an academic library, with supervisory and teaching experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of college-level coursework; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Two or more years of experience in an academic library setting.
• Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
• Experience teaching is preferred.
• Knowledge of library terminology, LC and Dewey classification system.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the operation of the library during evening and weekend hours.
• Provide research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
• Use knowledge of library resources to provide information literacy services to library patrons, face-to-face, and virtually.
• Follows procedures to ensure copyright compliance and advises faculty and students on policies and procedures for fair use.
• Assists faculty, students, and library staff to evaluate needs and locate appropriate materials.
• Support Access Services on an as-needed basis.
• Ability to prepare written monthly/annual reports and perform data analysis.
• Reviews Library usage patterns and make recommendations to the Public Services team regarding services.
• Provides service desk coverage.
• Responsible for opening and/or closing of the library.
• Support, train, and supervise student assistants.
• Perform all related duties assigned by a supervisor with reasonable accommodations.
