Job summary

University of Alabama Libraries seeks a library professional to provide general reference and information services at service desks, including reader’s advisory and user instruction. You will support Interlibrary Loan, handle non-traditional collections, and coordinate the Community Workshop.

MLS preferred; strong knowledge of library policies, excellent communication and organizational skills, and willingness to work evening and weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

• MLS preferred.
• Thorough working knowledge of library policies and procedures required.
• At least one weekly evening shift and some weekend work will be required.
• Experience with computers is highly desirable; excellent communication and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide general reference and informational services at service desks; assist users, explain policies, and operate equipment.
• Provide Interlibrary Loan services, procure and process items for WPFL users, and prepare materials for distribution.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate collections of non-traditional library items; organize the Community Workshop; participate in collection development and management.
• Act as an advocate for the library by explaining its mission, goals, services and programs; deliver tours and community presentations.
