Job summary

Harper College is seeking a Library Assistant to help manage daily library operations, assist patrons, and handle circulation and interlibrary loans. The role supports study rooms, updates the library website, and collaborates across campus.

Qualified candidates have a LTA Certificate or an Associate’s degree, with at least one year of library circulation and customer service experience, including proficiency in Word and PowerPoint. This is an on-site, full-time position at Harper College.

Responsibilities

• Open and/or close procedures and daily operations of the library.
• Assist users with locating, requesting, and processing materials from other institutions.
• Check materials and technology in and out.
• Support the Semester Loan Technology Program by assisting with the organization and functioning of devices.
• Collaborate with other departments as needed.
• Create, schedule, and maintain study room appointments and space.
• Update library website and create content for social media.
• Register and update user accounts.
• Circulate all library materials and collect fines and fees.
• Process materials borrowed and lent through Interlibrary Loan.
• Provide information to patrons in person, online, and by telephone; make referrals as needed.
• Assist in maintaining library space and collection.
• Inspect damaged materials and refer them to repair or replacement.
• Troubleshoot and provide assistance for daily library functioning (copiers, printers, etc.).
• Support library programming, marketing and outreach initiatives.
• Assist in directing day-to-day activities of student aides.
• Anticipate future needs of students.
• Keep informed of accessibility initiatives and campus initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
